Seriously, what kind of name is Jens Peter?
Jens is a Danish boys name that means “God is gracious.” It is pronounced YEHNS. In Jens Peter’s case, Jens is his first name and Peter his middle name. According to my sources, using the first and middle name together is the standard in Denmark.
My boyfriend spent a semester abroad in Denmark and thought the name Jens Peter was the best thing ever, so he put it in his memory banks for later use. Although his original intent was to bless his first-born son with the name, I intervened. I knew any American child named Jens would spend the rest of his life being called Jenny. You’re welcome, kiddo.
And as I foresaw, my family and the general public takes issue with the name. I am very proud to say my 7.5-year-old cousin gets it (She sends me letters in the mail and tell me how cute “Yens Peter” is). Sometimes people get it: “Jens Peter? That’s neat.” Most of the time, however, we get a blank stare, followed by: “James Peter?” or “Peter?” or “what?!”
But if Jens Peter is too hard for you, stick to calling him JP. Please.
What kind of dog is Jens Peter?
A Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
Why a Corgi?
Because my boyfriend wanted one. He convinced me using internet video of Corgis doing cute stuff. He is very evil and knows I cannot deny cute puppies doing cute things online. I am now in love with the breed’s stumpy tail and goofy face. Although I think I would like a big dog, too (eventually). Probably a rescued Golden Retriever or Rottweiler.
Does JP have any titles?
I’m glad you asked! We are very proud of our well-rounded corgi. His full name is: Lensbaron Jens Peter CGC IT CA.
CGC - Canine Good Citizen
IT - Herding Instinct Tested
CA - Coursing Ability Tested
Hopefully we’ll get a coursing ability test title and agility title soon!
